Makeup Transformation

Movie Making Makeup Transformations

Hey guys – can you believe it’s Thursday already!?

Hope you’ve all had a great week.  I’ve not been filming for once so I’ve had a chance to respond to all of your emails / requests / questions so thank you for those and WELCOME to all you newbies!!!  Please keep sharing and spreading the word

Have you all seen the feature film Chopper?  As part of Transformation Thursday I wanted to talk to you about Actors and their transformations for on screen performances and the lengths that they / makeup will go to make them into someone / something else that’s outside their own “ordinary”

Eric Bana

The film tells an intense story of Mark “Chopper” Read and Bana gains weight and loses muscle mass to play the part of Mark Read, a legendary criminal who wrote his autobiography while serving a jail sentence in prison

Eric Bana as Chopper

Aside from the non-physical effort Bana had to put into “become” Mark Read, there were obvious physical transformations that needed to happen – a hair cut, facial hair, tattoos and weight gain are just a few of the obvious things that he changed!  And what a transformation

I’m not sure whether it’s because I work for a living in transforming people in some way or another on a daily basis, but I become fascinated by transformations.  Whether they are on The Big Screen scale, or introducing someone to a new lipstick colour that they would never have picked on their own

Here are some more transformations for you to feast your eyes on

DONT FORGET …

There is endless scope for creativity to play a part in our lives on a daily basis but too often people get caught up in day to day “stuff” and forget to inject a bit of art into their day.  The idea of Transformation Thursday is to give you a little nudge (if you need one!!) to remind you that there are boundaries out there desperate to be pushed!  So go and give them a nudge – see what happens

Take a little step out of your normal makeup routine and see if people notice … do people look differently at you?  Do you act differently?

Do something different today …

… is one of my favourite Makeup Artists so I wanted to share this little nugget of her advice this morning with you all

“Fresh matte” …
… is how makeup GURU Pat McGrath described this seasons makeup finish backstage at Valentino …

So do you think that you might rock out this velvety texture or will you stick with Springs dewy finish?

How to do a 5 Minute Makeup

My 5 Minute Makeup

Morning everyone!  How was your weekend?  Fab I hope!  Mine weekend was quite relaxing this weekend – I finished filming a week or so ago (check out the IMdb link to the film as it’s going to be another of Dame Judi’s finest performances) so I have been really busy with my blog and doing some more videos for you all!  Very exciting couple of weeks coming up!

Are you ready to find out how I did my 5 minute makeup!?

Today I’ll be telling you all about what I used to create my 5 minute makeup that I started to tell you about on Friday.  It’s really simple and as I said then, all you need is some confidence, a makeup bag that you know and a bit of practice :)

Pre-Step 1 is: Before I start putting my makeup on, I had already prepped my face with moisturisor and sometimes primer (depends how tired I am as I personally find that normally I am ok without primer but it helps my makeup stay on for longer if I am really tired!)

These are my steps … I rarely deviate away from the order below coz it’s kind of like a military operation now and I’ve got the timings down to a T :)

  1. Yves Saint Laurent Teint Radiance  foundation –
    Yves Saint Laurent foundation

I pump 2 pea sized amounts onto the back of my left hand and apply to my nose, chin and mouth area with the tips of my 2nd and 3rd fingers of my right hand.  Because I only apply foundation to the areas of my face that need a little bit of coverage (nose, under eye and chin) I blend the rest of it outwards towards my ears – there is hardly any remaining at this point to cover my cheeks which is the way I like it as by doing it this way, it gives a natural finish, yet offers coverage in the required areas
    1 minute

  2. Y
    YSL Touche Eclat

ves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat – With one click of the “pen”, I have enough on the applicator for one sweep under both eyes.  I then gently pat it in, concentrating mainly on the inside corner of my eyes – I tend not to apply it to the outside corner of the underneath of my eyes
    30 seconds

  3. MAC Eyeshadow in Sketch

MAC eyeshadow in Sketch – With my large blending brush I apply a small amount of this (it’s dark brown with a tiny hint of Red) into my socket line and blend it upwards and outwards – its a broad brush stroak to add a small amount of depth and contouring to my eye – it’s by no means a “full on” smokey eyes
    30 seconds

  4. L'oreal Volume Millions Mascara

L’oreal Volume Million Lashes in Extra Black – I am very generous with the amount of Mascara that I like to apply as I like a full impact set of lashes!  I apply one coat to each eye and move onto step 5
    45 seconds

  5. Saint Tropez Bronzer Powder

Saint Tropez Powder Bronzer – I load up my bronzing brush with a generous amount of bronzer and tap off any excess.  I then start from the outside of my neck (right side) and work in circular motions, moving upwards towards my chin each time, and around my neck from the left to the right.  When there is less bronzer remaining on the brush, I work in circular motions around my face starting on my right side moving anticlockwise.  Dont forget to work the colour into your temples and hairline!
    About 1 minute

  6. I move back to step 4 and apply another coat of mascara – by coming back to it, it allows the first coat to dry ever so slightly, which makes the second layer build up much better!
    This takes about 45 seconds
  7. MAC Pink Swoon

MAC powder Blusher in Pink Swoon – I smile into the mrror, load the colour into my brush and apply the blusher in circluar motions to the Apples of my cheeks
    15 seconds

  8. Lime Lilly Eyebrow pencil in Taupe

Lime Lily – Waterproof Defining Eyebrow pencil in Taupe – I allow myself about 20 seconds per eye and apply this pencil in short strokes starting from the inside corner of my brow, following the shape that I want to create, to the arch then down the other side to finish at a pointThis takes about 45 seconds

Total running time 5 1/2 minutes

What about my lips!?  To be honest with you, for this makeup, I don’t put anything on my lips, apart from some Balm if they are feeling dry and I would do that on the run to save precious time!

So make sure that you stay tuned for my YouTube video coming very soon where I will SHOW you how I do each step so that you can go away, practice and perfect YOUR 5 minute makeup :)

Introduction to a 5 minute Makeup

So its TRANSFORMATION THURSDAY again and today is an introduction to YOUR 5 minute makeup

If you guys know me and have watched my 30 second smokey eye YouTube video then you’ll know that I like to do EVERYTHING well but some things I like to do well AND FAST!  My Lucy Friend speed demon has been lying dormant since i was a baby… my family would definately agree with that! Doing my own makeup quickly has come about for a number of reasons – I started playing with makeup very early on so I was already training my hand, eye, face coordination (unknowingly) from a very early age! Then as I got older I didn’t stop!

Girl putting her mums lippie on

I don’t think that since the age of 16 a day has gone past where I haven’t used at least one piece of makeup in any 24 hour period. Whether that’s lipgloss, eyeliner, blusher, moisturiser… I’ll use it at least once a day!  That’s not because I was insecure or felt I needed it to do it to make myself feel better.  I simply LOVED playing and experimenting with it all and I realised that taking the time to do it  to myself became my sort of ritual.  Aside from the benefits I was getting from making myself look as good as I could, I was taking 5 minutes every day to focus purely on myself and the benefit that I get from that is HUGE – I still feel it now when I do my makeup every day.  Do you guys feel the same?So by default, the speed at which I was applying makeup on myself was increasing and increasing! then when I started doing it on friends, I got quicker on them too!

But where am I going with this, you might wonder?  That’s what prompted me to start my makeup YouTube tutorials with My 30 SECOND SMOKEY EYE!  It’s to prove to you that you don’t need hours to get a good makeup look done – which is great news as most of the time you don’t have hours to spare, right?! But as long as you have the right tools at your disposal you can achieve ANYTHING.  A lot of it is in the organisation of it and that becomes second nature the more you practice!

Even if you don’t believe me right now, you gotta TRUST ME :)

That prompted me to write to you all today. There are 2 pictures below – a “before” and an “after” … The one on the LEFT is the “before” by the way… :)

5 Minute Makeup before and after photos

That very natural makeup took me no longer than 5 minutes to do.  5 minutes?!?!  Did you think it would have taken longer or shorter amount of time?  Do you instantly think that there’s no way you could do a makeup in 5 minutes? If so then STEP ONE is changing the way you feel about it because it’s ENTIRELY possible.  All you need is confidence and practice, and a makeup bag that you KNOW.  By that  i mean using products that you know how to use – ones that you know how they will go onto your skin

Now, if you’re all honest with yourselves, I think you can safely say that you could all make 5 minutes in the morning for yourself. Right? This is aimed at people who want to wear makeup by the way…It’s for those of you who want to wear it but are either too nervous to try different things or lack confidence and belief in your own abilities or you might just want to see another way to do what you already do by someone different!  Whatever your reasons for reading this and wanting to get better / faster / more confident / whatever it is you are seeking … IT’S BRILLIANT that you are doing something about it

I’m here to show you that you can STOP thinking those negative thoughts and by watching what I do, and by having a few KEY makeup products in your makeup bag… You’re makeup routine life will transform!

Check back in over the weekend where I will reveal what I used and how I used it and I will give you plenty of tips on what you can be doing to make your life easier

Keep an eye out too as Ill be sharing how to do the 5 minute makeup on YouTube

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read
See you all tomorrow

Contouring Makeup for Photoshoots

Mid week Makeup madness – CONTOURING!

Good morning everyone :)

So normally I don’t have any trouble falling asleep, but ill tell you what – last night my body did NOT want to shut down! Sum total of 4 hours I managed to get in the end! Blurk. But I was chatting to our beauty buddies on the other side of the pond at 3am on Twitter so it wasn’t all bad :)
Ill keep you posted today as to how my makeup stays on throughout the day as I often find that it runs all over the place the more tired I am!  You find that?
And obviously I’ve got to pay a little more attention than normal to my under eye area! Eye cream AND primer are going on today!
Exciting as it is, I’m not writing to tell you about my sleep patterns!
Photo of me showing cheek and eye contouring

I mentioned on my Facebook page that I’d talk about the photo shoot from yesterday and tell you all what makeup I used on myself… I was my own personal makeup artist :)  Youguys  should check the magazine out www.port-magazine.com … The Magazine for Men, apparently!  The Article will be out in March so I’ll keep you posted

The photographer shot us in black and white so my makeup was all about the SHADING / CONTOURING – not colour.  I used my trusted MAC contouring powder in Taupe for cheekbone and nose shading and a dark brown eye shadow for socket line shading.  My goal was to open out my eyes as much as I could using makeup so I kept the eyeshadow as high and wide as possible, whilst I made sure to keep the blending as soft as possible to make it look as natural as possible.  I defined my brows a little more than usual too, keeping in mind the 3 points of the brow shape ( do you remember Angelina Jolies face from Sundays Best Brows article on my Facebook Page?)  My goal was to really open up my eyelid space and creating a high and wide arch did this
I took a quick photo of my makeup before I left the house  so you can see what I mean about the socket line shading and brow definition
What have you done with your makeup this morning? Anyone else making themselves up for anything special today? Share your photos with us!
Don’t be shy

Round up of the week!

Friday’s Round-up

Hey everybody!  Happy Friday – hope that you have all had a wonderful week and here’s a round up to the week in the land of Make Up Like A Pro :)

Firstly thank you all for your ongoing support, not just this week but since I started the Tweeting, Facebooking and Blogging towards the end of last year.  It’s all of you that make it worth while

So, I’ve been Tweeting and Facebooking like mad this week trying to keep up with the demand for Winter Wonderland Makeup ideas.  I’ve had emails asking my advice on skincare for the cold weather and for makeup ideas on looking good in the cold weather too! It’s all been flooding in – is it the threat of snow I wonder?

As I was getting asked for all sorts, it prompted me to ask YOU all what YOUR makeup PICK ME UPS are.  I’ve had some great responses from you all from Chanel Lip Gloss to Bright Nail Varnish  Thank you all so much for messaging in and please keep them coming… I’m going to do a list of all your ideas so you can all enjoy each others favourites!

Today I included a photo of my face… you’ll see my goon of a boyfriend mucking around in the back of shot on the first one – thanks Ben :) but you can still see the pink in my apples

Blusher

You can see more of the contouring in the second photo to the RHS

Contouring for cheeks
How do you contour on your cheeks?

I’m often asked what contouring powders I would recommend and which blusher I wear – the answer is MAC’s contouring powder in Taupe and MAC’s powder blusher in Pink Swoon.  Two of my staple makeup bag MUST HAVES if I’m totally honest.  Pink Swoon is soft enough for a day time lift and looks stunning if applied well to the apples of my cheeks … great colour choice MAC!  And Taupe is not too red as contouring powders can often be so they are a pretty good combination!

Don’t forget to head over to my FB and Twitter pages as I’m updating great tips and tricks and articles on there every day… I’ll talk about whatever tickles my fancy :)

Have a fabulous weekendall of you and look forward to next week with some more makeup and beauty ideas :)

Lots of love, Luce

Apply Makeup properly!

Putting your best face forward?

Putting your best face forward

Following on from my facebook post yesterday about how makeup is perceived, I read another interesting article today which I want to share with you guys. In a study, funded by Procter & Gamble, scientists at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston University and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute asked participants to rate various looks in terms of competence, likeability, attractiveness and trustworthiness

They found that when faces were shown very quickly, all ratings went up with cosmetics in all different looks
‘The women were judged as more competent, likeable, attractive and trustworthy.’

As the length of time increased that participants were allowed to see the images, participants showed that beauty and competence went up but trustworthiness – or honesty – soon suffered as cosmetic looks got heavier

Putting your best face forward

For all of their positive effects on looking and feeling good, large amounts of make-up soon started to negatively impact on the way people perceived an individual’s honesty

‘Dramatic make-up was no longer an advantage compared to when people saw the photos very quickly.’

As time pressure will affect automatic judgements, the authors pointed out that the results may have a bearing upon the way women should approach photos for ballots, job applications and dating sites

Interesting huh!

I’m (obviously) an advocate of makeup and it’s ability to empower women in a number of different ways but what do you guys think?

Message me with your ideas or post comments below. I got a few great replies from yesterday … A few of you said that you often wear bright lippie if you’re feeling low! That’s good to know! So ladies, if you see someone with bright lippie on, they might just be having a bad day so throw them an extra smile!!

What do you do when you’re feeling low?

Some of you said that your confidence increases when you have spent time making an effort on yourself… Do you think that’s because you know you’ve got your “best face on”?

Let me know!

Look forward to hearing more… And be brave… Post the comments below so we can all read them
