Makeup tips for Blue Eyes

A little re-cap on the importance of the colour wheel when it comes to picking colour for your eye makeup – remind yourself by checking out the link http://www.makeuplikeapro.info/?s=Colour+wheel&submit=Search

For Blue eyes … they really pop when played up with black or chocolate brown liner and thick black mascara, thanks to the dark/light contrast. Rich shimmery eye shadows have the same effect. Shimmery taupe eye shadow has a light-reflecting finish that opens up the eyes and the complementary brown undertones make the blue pop — from dark brown to taupe and champagne

And of course, with blue, you can always turn to cool shades of grays and blues, like Yves Saint Laurent Ombres Duolumieres Eye Shadow Duo in 5 Blue Legend – Grey Illusion. The mini palette includes shadow and liner brushes for an abundance of application options

However, be careful with very light, almost gray, eyes. Dark shades can easily overwhelm and minimize light eye colors. A soft grey, or silver won’t overshadow your eyes’ natural beauty

Makeup for Brown Eyes

Brown eyes are neutral, so you can wear pretty much any color. But to really make them pop, go for a contrast. Pale champagne shadow makes dark brown eyes stand out. Line the inside of your lower lash line with a cream pencil, like Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in 102 Béryl to enhance the effect. Love the soft tip and convenient sharpener on the other end

For a more dramatic look, create a charcoal grey smoky eye using Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Incubus. The dark grey shadow enhances any darker specks in brown eyes, making them look richer and deeper. This shadow has a matte finish so color doesn’t crease on lids

Any bold hue, such as mint or a bright purple like Benefit Velvet Eyeshadow in Fancy Pancy also offers sharp contrast to browns

Makeup tips for Green Eyes

Any shade of green — whether it’s mint, hunter or emerald — will make green or hazel eyes pop. Champagne, chocolate brown and olive green are great for a subtle green smoky eye if you add highlights around the brow bone

Since purple and green are opposites on the color wheel, they look extra vibrant when paired together. Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in 83 Illusoire a subtle purple, has a gel texture that allows it to be worn as a shadow or liner

For a subtler contrast, try a sheer lavender shadow, like Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow in Lavender

Makeup Tips

Makeup TIP Tuesday

As it’s the post – Oscars week this week, it only seemed right to give a couple of Red Carpet Tips to you all today

How can you make sure your lipstick lasts all night?

Use a lip liner. The liner acts as an anchor to the lipstick so it adheres and has a clean finish. Using a bit of face primer on the lips can work too and helps to ensure the wear of your color

How do you create your own Red Carpet looks at home?

The best way to recreate the looks from the red carpet into an everyday look is by picking one feature of the look and making it more simple. This helps tone the look down so it isn’t too much at once

Where’s the Rosey Apple of your cheeks?

Smile into the mirror and where the area of your cheeks becomes roundest… that’s your apple

Blend blend blend !!!

Make sure that you blend your blusher into your foundation really well, otherwise on mature skin, this will add unnecessary years to your face

Tap tap tap

When using a powder blusher, load up your brush with colour and ALWAYS tap the brush lightly before applying the colour to your face to knock away any excess pigment … otherwise you risk loading your cheeks with too much strong colour

What are your daily tricks?

Share them with us via Facebook below

Makeup News from NY Fashion Week

This is a great behind the scenes interview with Fashion Makeup Artist James Vincent – Fantastic Product and Technique tips and tricks … great article James

James Vincent NY Fashion Ween

James is responsible for the beautiful looks showcased at the International Makeup show, runways around the world and celebs like Lady Gaga and Jane Fonda just to name a few

Q: Can you tell us more about the trends that inspired you for the Ashton Michael Runway?

A: The theme of the collection was “Black Art” so I wanted depth and intensity while keeping it minimal. One of the easiest way to get this was using OCC lip tars because they are so intense in color.

Q: Did you do any highlighting and contouring on the models? If so what products did you use?

A: Yes, I focused on contouring with no highlighting for a more natural look. I used Kevin Aucoin Sculpting powder to achieve this look.

Q: What are your top  go-to beauty products?

(1) Kevin Aucoin skin enhancer foundation, which is versatile. You can get sheer coverage from it or build for a full coverage look.

(2) Lip tars are super versatile. You can use them on the eyes, lips and cheeks.

(3) Nars Multiples blush which gives you the right kiss of color to your cheeks.

Photo Credit: Kraseybeauty.com, NARS multiples at Sephora $39

Q: When watching some of your tutorials you speak a lot about how to achieve a great eyebrow. What do you think about the new eyebrow epidemic that’s taking over these beautiful faces?

A: The brows now are more full and fluffier but I do see that people are placing more attention on the eyebrows. You must know your product that you’re using and stay away from the ‘makeup counter’ eyebrow. We don’t see those on the runways so you must try to keep your brows looking modern in a sense.

Q: What is your favorite eyebrow product to use?

A: Anastasia’s brow point, which is great for sketching in your brow and individual hairs.

James keyed the show “Boy Meets Girl” by Stacey Igel as well. We got to see a new fun look from James that he created with fun colors.

Q: What was your goal with executing the makeup for “Boy Meets Girl”?

A: I wanted it to be fun and flirty with a pop of color, which reflects Stacey Igel.

Q: What is your favorite red lipstick?

A:  Well, I love ‘Lady Danger’ and ‘Ruby Woo’ by MAC. I also love Stalker by OCC but I grew up on red colored lipsticks from Revlon, which can do the job as well.

Photo credit: drugstore.com, Revlon Really Red lipstick can be found for under $8 uyour local drug  store.

(Everything Girls Love)

I can “high five” his red lippie choices as MAC Ruby Woo and Lady Danger are a staple kit “must have” for me too.  Great lippies which I would definately recommend for long lasting vibrant colour middle of the road price lipsticks

Brow Definer
Light Eyeshadow

Sexy Demure

To start this makeup you need to apply a lighter base than you would normally choose but make sure that you blend it into your neck !

Sexy Demure
Sexy Demure
Sexy Demure
Sexy Demure

Next, apply your lighter shade eyeshadow over your entire lids upto your socket line

If you feel confident, apply a little socket line shading to add definition which you will see I have done very lightly in the photos

Next, taking your liquid eyeliner, pull your eyelid upwards and outwards to stretch out the skin on your eyelid.  This will give you greater control when drawing your eyeline.  Then starting from the middle of your eye, draw a line upwards and outwards to the shape that you want

Complete your the other eye to match

TIP!  Keep some cotton buds handy and wet the end with water if you make a misteake.  Avoid using an oily makeup remover as this will affect your ability to re-apply the liner

Next, apply your mascara or false lashes

Define your brows.  If you are dark haired, you will be able to go darker than I have with your brows to match your hair colour but beware all you blonde haired beauties as you will start to look like you have comedy brows if you go too dark!

Next, apply your lip liner and then your chosen red lippie

Sexy Demure

Lastly, apply your blusher and contour shading.  Apply your blusher last because the amount that you put on will be affected by your red lipstick!

Don’t forget your beauty spot if you fancy wearing one!

Voila!

Try this beautiful and sexy makeup for your sweet Valentines Days :)

Let me know how you get on

Film Effects and Beauty Makeup – which one?

What is a Beauty (aesthetic) Makeup? And what is Effects (prosthetic) makeup?

Morning everybody – how was your weekend?  Fun I hope?!

Smokey Eye

Mine was great.  I had a full glam evening out on Friday night (Ill tell you about the products I used later but here’s a little pic attached) and a chilled out rest of the weekend ready for a busy week ahead!

As it’s Monday, I thought that I’d start the week with a new topic… I thought that I’d talk about the cross over between High-street Makeup and Film Makeup because it’s 2 areas that I am fully involved with on a day to day basis!  I know that a lot of my friends get confused with some of the words that I use to describe the different makeups so I thought that it might make a nice Monday morning read for you all to check out the difference between 2 major makeup areas

As we all know I’m sure, Makeup goes further than making you look good on the outside.  I truly believe that if you embrace its power then it can help you to feel more positive on the inside too.  In terms of positivity, it’s about having added confidence in knowing that you look and feel great.  Looking presentable is just an obvious advantage.  Makeup is a very powerful tool as it can considerably change the way that you look.  Not all makeup will work to enhance your natural features and add beauty.  Aaesthetic makeup, aka beauty makeup will help you to do this, and prosthetic makeup, aka special effects makeup, uses a different approach.  Take a look at the photo of Ric Baker below for example

Makeup Artist Ric Baker
Rick Baker

If you don’t have any beauty makeup and want to buy some then get yourself down to a department store and start testing out some colours and products.  Take a packet of tissues with you too so you can wipe off colours and start again!  Don’t be afraid to use the back of your hand as a pallet too.  When you think of beauty makeup, you are familiar with lipstick, foundation, blusher, mascara, eye shadow… all of the products which are readily available to you – even in some of the major Clothes Stores now

On Thursday last week I talked about Movie Makeup Transformations.  Check out my article if you haven’t already as it will introduce you to some of the most recent Movie Makeups that have involved some form of transformation to take the actor to the character he/she will be playing.  This process often will involve some level of Prosthetic makeup application, which is usually known as “Effects makeup”.  Take a look at some movies, TV shows and theatre shows to get a treat for your eyes in some prosthetic makeup examples – they truly are works of art.  So, it is often applied to create a special / particular / chosen “effect” … not a term you should be using when looking to build up your beauty makeup dialogue!  Sculpting, moulding and casting techniques are used to create advanced cosmetic effects.  Some of the desired effects for the person wearing the makeup might be to age, grow, change shape or even change species through the clever and skilled application of prosthetic makeup techniques.  For instance, the character Mystique in X-Men

Rebecca Romijn as Mistique in X-Men

There is more cross over between aesthetic makeup and prosthetic makeup in terms of products used but less of a cross over in the products used to create prosthetic effects and those used to create a beauty makeup!  It might seem obvious but it’s useful to know the terminology and some differences between the two

So if you want that celebrity glowing look everywhere you go, like Megan Fox, don’t miss a trick… take your lippie but girls, make sure that you leave at home your sculpting kit! :)

Makeup Transformation

Movie Making Makeup Transformations

Hey guys – can you believe it’s Thursday already!?

Hope you’ve all had a great week.  I’ve not been filming for once so I’ve had a chance to respond to all of your emails / requests / questions so thank you for those and WELCOME to all you newbies!!!  Please keep sharing and spreading the word

Have you all seen the feature film Chopper?  As part of Transformation Thursday I wanted to talk to you about Actors and their transformations for on screen performances and the lengths that they / makeup will go to make them into someone / something else that’s outside their own “ordinary”

Eric Bana

The film tells an intense story of Mark “Chopper” Read and Bana gains weight and loses muscle mass to play the part of Mark Read, a legendary criminal who wrote his autobiography while serving a jail sentence in prison

Eric Bana as Chopper

Aside from the non-physical effort Bana had to put into “become” Mark Read, there were obvious physical transformations that needed to happen – a hair cut, facial hair, tattoos and weight gain are just a few of the obvious things that he changed!  And what a transformation

I’m not sure whether it’s because I work for a living in transforming people in some way or another on a daily basis, but I become fascinated by transformations.  Whether they are on The Big Screen scale, or introducing someone to a new lipstick colour that they would never have picked on their own

Here are some more transformations for you to feast your eyes on

DONT FORGET …

There is endless scope for creativity to play a part in our lives on a daily basis but too often people get caught up in day to day “stuff” and forget to inject a bit of art into their day.  The idea of Transformation Thursday is to give you a little nudge (if you need one!!) to remind you that there are boundaries out there desperate to be pushed!  So go and give them a nudge – see what happens

Take a little step out of your normal makeup routine and see if people notice … do people look differently at you?  Do you act differently?

Do something different today …
