Precious Tips

Phew…It’s Saturday!

How was everyone’s week? Did you try out any of the ideas I gave you this week?  Staying beautiful naturally?  Keeping your makeup to a minimum?

Looking pretty and polished without a lot of makeup does take practice so don’t get disheartened if you haven’t quite mastered it as you would have hoped… it’s only your first week!  It is one of the most versatile makeup looks though, so if you can grasp it, then you’re already streets ahead.  You can rock it at the office, on a date or for Sunday lunch.  It’s shattering, classic and chic.  The best combination.

So, moving on from the natural look, and all the tips that I gave you to create it, today I am going to give you some special Makeup Artist Tricks and Tips.  They’re to help you get yourself out of a sticky situation if you are caught short.  When I tell you what they are, I think that you will be a little surprised that you have not thought of them yourself!

Precious tips

Here goes …

If you can’t find the perfect lip colour in your makeup bag,  mix a little eye shadow with your lip gloss… this will create your own custom colour!

For a maximum lash curl, heat your eyelash curlers under your hairdryer for about 5-7 seconds … be more cautious when curling though as the metal will be warm!

As part of my kit, there are certain eye colours that need to be mixed with water as it intensifies the colour pigments.  You can try that at home when you wet your eye shadow applicator with a SMALL amount of water.  The colour will POP out and it will remain on your lids for longer too

If you’ve run out of your foundation, don’t despair… mix a small amount of your concealer with moisturiser!  Tip – use an oil free moisturiser as it won’t slide around your face so much

Do you clean your brushes?  You should do.  This will give them a longer life and they will work better for you.  I clean mine after each use. Use a small amount of brush cleaner or shampoo and leave them to dry thoroughly… preferably over night.  To clean your foundation or blusher brush, place a small amount of shampoo into the palm of your hand and before you wet your bristles, rub the brush into your palm and work up a dry lather.  Then rinse the soap out thoroughly with warm water. By lathering it up dry, the soap will mix directly with the makeup on your brush to remove it

If you want to make your nose look smaller, apply your normal foundation as you would to your nose, then use a highlighter down the centre of your nose.  This will lighten the middle and give the illusion of narrowed width

Make sure you keep these precious tips in mind so keep re-reading this article to remind yourself what they are!

Silver Beauty

Ok… So I got a specific request asking me to explain how to do the silver glitter eyeshadow photo I posted earlier on my Facebook LIKE page … so here you go!

So you’d need to get hold of the following bits and bobs –

(1) glitter – Barry M is great for a highstreet option or get your hands on some MAC pigments. They come in pots, photo attached

(2) you’ll need a makeup primer for your eye lids to make sure the glitter stays put

(3) liquid eyeliner / gel eyeliner

(4) false lashes for the underneath
(5) false lashes for the top lashes

(6) morticians wax to cover your brows

Here’s how to do it!

(1) firstly you’ll need to “hide” your brows and you can do this quite simply with some morticians wax. Brush your brows through so the hair is flat and apply the wax in the direction of hair growth. If you want some more detail on how to do that, let me know, otherwise ill get on with the rest of it …

(2) apply the eyelid primer with a medium sized eyeshadow brush, covering your eyelids evenly. Apply the primer in the shape that you want the glitter to be… so make sure you apply it above the line of your brow and extend it outside the natural edge of your eye lid. Use the photo as your guide.

(3) decant some of your chosen glitter (so you don’t keep dipping your used brush in the pot) and load up your brush with the glitter. Working from your top lash line upwards, apply the glitter to your lids by “pushing” it into your skin. Create the shape indicated in the photo and be sure to cover the wax completely

Repeat this step as much as necessary to build the depth of colour. You can mix different glitters together if you want, don’t forget!

(4) using any eyeliner brush you are comfortable with, load up your brush with your chosen eyeliner and starting on the top lash line, create a sexy liner shape, complementing the shape of your eye, not forgetting the flick at the edge! Use the photo as your guide again

(5) repeat this on the underneath. Make sure you leave a gap between your bottom lash line and your eyeliner line … Use the photo as your guide. Keep looking at it to remind yourself!

(6) apply lash glue to your set of top lashes and allow it to go slightly tacky. Apply the lashes to your top lids using tweezers of necessary. Do one eye at a time !

tip! You might need to curl your natural lashes before you stick on the false lashes

Apply mascara over the top if necessary / if desired after the lashes are glued

(7) for the underneath lashes – cut one pair of lashes into 4 parts (i.e. cut the right hand lash into 2 pieces and then cut the left hand lash into 2 pieces). Allocate 2 pieces of cut lash to each eye. Turn the lashes down so they are bending into the face (instead of away from the face like the top lashes would sit) and glue them to the underneath of your eye. Glue 2 pieces of lash to the underneath of each eye. Make sure you line the bottom lashes up with the eyeliner shape you have created along your bottom lash line, rather than your natural lash line! That space between your bottom eyelid and the eyeliner line is crucial for this look. Repeat on the other eye!

VOILLA! Eye makeup complete!

Tip !! for the rest of your makeup … You’ll need to have a flawless finish for your face so make sure your foundation or concealer is heavy enough to even out your skin tone completely Use a very natural lip colour and a small amount of natural soft pink blusher

Do you ever …

Do you ever …

… No this is not the sister game of “would you ever” that you used to play at school!

I wanted to give you something to think about today that involves other peoples faces and not just your own

All of my tips and articles so far have been about what YOU can do for YOURself, but today I’d like you to look outside your own face and look at everyone around youTake a look at their skin. What colour is it? What is their style? What makeup are they wearing? Have they chosen to feature a particular part of their face, for instance their eyes today? What colour is their hair? Does it suit their skin complexion? Do you like it? If so, what do you like about it? Take a minute to think about it!Soak up everything that you are seeing. I guarantee that you will notice things about other people that you would never have guessed you would and you will start to notice things about yourself that you might not even have noticed before

It will alter your perspective temporarily… and you will really surprise yourself with how enlightened you will feel for a while! Be careful not to stare though as you might give off a wrong impression!!

Have you ever given someone an unexpected compliment? I try and do this at least once a day to someone that has caught my eye, for whatever reason… You will be shocked at the positive effect it will have on yourself and on the person who has received it

Unleash the REBEL on you

RECOMMENDATION !

So I’ve been chatting to you guys about trying new stuff out and I thought I’d (kinda) take a spoonful of my own medicine and dig up an old favourite lip colour … And try it out for Autumn 2012… Mac ‘Rebel’ in Satin.

LOVE it for so many reasons …mainly the depth of colour and its staying power.  You’re guaranteed a long lasting wear that will keep your lips feeling nourished.  With the warm Autumnal feel you’ll be safe and happy in your choice if you unleash your Rebel.

Definitely a recommendation if you want a rich Fall colour x
