The importance of keeping on top of things

Sorry I’ve been quiet over the weekend and yesterday but I had an unexpected outing to A&E and it’s left me on crutches! I’m ok and will mend fully but it did get me thinking because of something someone said to me whilst I was in the hospital bed, about keeping yourself “in check” at all times

And that was along the lines of “you never know when you’ll be caught unexpectedly having to expose parts of your body, to strangers…” And if they’re “furry” then you might end up with a rosy blushing face!!

My scenario was that I had to roll my jeans up to allow access to my ankle. For me this was no hardship as my legs had been recently epilated! As part of what makes me “me”, I always keep myself groomed. I take care to keep myself de-furred at all times, and that’s with thanks to my Braun epilator! It allows me to keep my legs smooth at home and on my own terms. I don’t need to wait for an appointment to get them waxed, I can do it exactly when I want in the comfort of my own home! It’s one of the best home vanity purchases I have ever made

The importance of keeping on top of things!

So on this occasion for me, rolling up my jeans was no chore, and I didn’t have the embarrassing blushing shame that goes with unwaxed, unshaven pins! We have all been there, right?!

And as an added bonus my toe nails were home-pedicured too, something else that I like to keep on top of. This meant that as my leg was “planked out” in front of me, I could rely on my 5 digits poking out with pride, beautifully painted, from the top of the bandage :)

My boyfriend laughs at me, at the fact that I even think about whether I’ve got hairy legs when I should be worried about whether I’ve broken my ankle! Its not that I’m less worried about the damage I’ve done!!! But I wonder how he’d feel if I didn’t take that sort of thing seriously…He may laugh now but I bet he wouldn’t be laughing if I suddenly stopped keeping myself in check!? We all know that life gets in the way and that the thought of doing some of this stuff at the end of a busy day can be too hard to bear, but for you single ladies out there, that handsome doctor might just be single too :)

So my motto for you guys today is that you never know when you’ll be caught short! With every product imaginable out there on the shelves, readily available for you to buy, you can call on for assistance something which will help you de-fur, smooth, wax, shine and polish you to prevent any potentially embarrassing situations!

This sounds ideal, but I understand fully that it is a bit of a mine field out there when you’re alone, and trying to determine what you can and cannot live without. There can be a massive “product overload” and everyone is trying to sell you “their best product”. It’s a rough ride out there in the beauty arena but I’m here to offer you assistance

That’s why I have introduced the idea of staying on top of your personal grooming today. Stay tuned on here as I will go through some specific, fantastic and easy to use, DIY-at-home products that you can call upon any time of day

Ill give you your very own “must have” recommended list to get yourself out of most “hairy” situations :)

1970s Disco Fever by Make Up Like A Pro

So a friend of mine is off to a 1970’s party tomorrow night and asked me at Make Up Like A Pro for some tips… I’ve posted back to her on my Facebook LIKE page but I thought that I’d share it with you guys on here, especially as it’s a FRIDAY NIGHT!!  Wooh hoo

1970's VOGUE

Is anyone else going to a 1970’s party this weekend?  If so then share your makeup looks with me on here!

This is what I suggested to my friend though … see what you all think :)

The 70’s was GREAT for the Disco fever… and think Farrah Fawcett for your hair style as that’s pretty easy to mimic and will instantly drop you into the 70’s. See the attached photo and grab yourself some huge fat heated curlers and curl your hair in the direction off of your face in small sections. Carry this on all around your head to create lots of movement. Use hairspray that has some movement in it like Elnette Diamond hold or something similar to create a flexible hold look. You might need something stronger to hold the curl around your face

Farrah Fawcett
For your eyes think COLOUR! Blues and Yellow eye shadows were really popular. See the attached photo and mix it in with some glitter if you want to!Define your cheekbones with a complementary colour – peach or soft pink – (suck your cheeks in to create a hollow to find your cheek bones) and top them with some highlighter to show off your bone structureUse eyeliner over your entire eye lid lash line and kick it out at the edges in a slight cats flick. Finish your eyes off with some false lashes. For your foundation, think clean and dewy with a freshly moisturised look. Go for a light moisturising foundation or an illuminating creamAs your eyes should do most of the talking, make your lips less of a statement. Go for a glossy bright pink as it will make your lips slightly more subtle yet still flirtatious

Oh and don’t forget your nails!  Some women in the 70’s opted for bare nails and others opted for deep brick reds, browns and burgundies

Hey guys and girls

Hope you’re all  having a great weekend!

I am … I’ve found myself DIY’ing on my Saturday night in :) I’m flying out Monday for work so making the most of a quiet weekend!

So I’ve been shabby-chic’ing my 2nd hand 1940’s wardrobe (I’ll post a photo when it’s finished!) and something magic happened.  My boyfriend Ben and I are happily painting away and we got to THAT point … when your brushes start shedding their hairs and stick to whatever they’re touching?  That happened!  My hairs from the brush were shedding all over my beautifully painted wardrobe!

I know you’re probably thinking “where is she giong with this” … bear with me

I’m used to this kind of issue daily through work … it’s not uncommon for a foundation brush to shed the odd hair on a clients face … I’m sure we have all been there, whether it’s on your face or someone elses?  So when that happens, what do you do?

Do you use your phat finger to try and lift the hair, whilst removing half your foundation with it? Do you lick your finger and try and “out-stick” the hair? Wiping your saliva all over your (hopefully not anyone elses!) face?

If you don’t know how to remove it and you want to learn a little trick then keep reading!

So looking at my shabby-chic’ing wardrobe and all its straggler hairs, my boyfriend looked at me, a little in awe if I’m honest, as I gently manouvered my paint brush under the hair, lifted the end a little away from the surface, and freed it gently from the paint!

He had envisaged phat-fingering the hairs off and I’m sure covering himself in the process!  He was amazed that such a simple trick would remove such an irritant!

It is at that point that I thought “I have to share this with you guys…. and check whether you are using that technique to remove your straggler hairs that shed from your foundation brush” … so are you?

If not, then start doing it!  You will never have to try and prod with your fingers any more!

Perfect Ponytails

I thought that I’d better not neglect the new season and make it all about Halloween!

Here’s a tip on how the PERFECT PONY is a must have addition to your Fall hair and makeup look!Elle says that ponytails this season are perfectly precise and chic and not the gym wearing pony that you might have been rocking for the past few months … Put a bit of effort into the look and it will only take 2 minutes to pull off something that’s fit for the runway!

Here’s how to do it:

(1) Prep your hair with a light serum to add shine
(2) Pull your hair back using a flat brush to get it smooth
(3) Secure this with a band
(4) Take a lightweight hairspray and spray lightly
(5) TIP! To prevent those pesky bumps and to smooth down the surface, spray hairspray onto a clean toothbrush and run it over the surface of your pony tail!
